A casino bonus deadline needs a starting event, a duration or fixed cut-off, and an explanation of what expires. Seven days from issue is different from seven days from acceptance. An offer closing date may govern entry to a promotion without describing how long an awarded bonus remains usable. A reminder does not, by itself, establish a new start.

Use this reading method before calculating anything: copy the trigger, copy the unit of time, record any displayed deadline, then identify the affected funds. Leave a field unresolved when the terms do not supply it. Converting an incomplete phrase into an exact timestamp is not clarification; it adds a condition that may not exist.

This article examines deadline wording, not whether any current promotion is worth accepting. The operator example is a public help page checked on 19 September 2026. We did not sign in, claim an offer or inspect an individual account. You can leave a bonus unused. Time already spent on a condition does not require you to continue gambling.

What the Betfair page actually establishes

Betfair's Casino Promotion FAQ states a default validity period of seven days from issue, with specific promotional terms able to state otherwise. It says unused bonus is removed at the end of that period and directs readers to the bonus's own terms and displayed expiry date. The useful phrase is “from the date of issue”. It identifies a trigger; it does not establish that opening a game resets it.

The same FAQ distinguishes the time allowed to complete an offer from the availability of the resulting bonus. This is why a single screenshot headed “promotion” may not answer every timing question. Read the labelled step before attaching the countdown to a balance.

The public explanation is evidence of the operator's published wording. It is not evidence of the exact deadline in a reader's account, the terms of a personalised offer, or how a disputed expiry was processed. We have not converted the default into an offer-specific promise. If your displayed deadline differs, preserve both records and ask which condition controls your particular bonus.

Make a four-entry deadline record

Create a separate entry for each event the documents distinguish. Start with entry or opt-in: what action counts, and by when? Next record qualification: what must be completed, and within which window? Then record award or issue: when is the benefit credited or made available? Finally record use or completion: which condition must be satisfied before the benefit expires?

These are reading categories, not a claim that every promotion has four separate clocks. One document may combine two stages. Another may leave a stage out. Do not manufacture a deadline simply to fill the worksheet. Record “not stated in the document checked” and identify the missing question.

For each entry keep the source URL, the date you read it, the exact clause and any displayed timestamp. Distinguish a fixed expiry time from a countdown you observed at one moment. A countdown reading “two hours” without an observation time is a poor permanent record. It becomes especially ambiguous if the screen refreshes later or the device clock uses another time zone.

The purpose is a small evidence record you can understand tomorrow, not a schedule for squeezing more gambling into the available time.

A worked example with three different dates

Here is an invented clause set, used only to demonstrate the method. Assume the offer closes at 18:00 UTC on a Monday; a qualifying action must be completed within 48 hours after acceptance; and the awarded bonus expires exactly 168 hours after issue. Those hour-based conditions are assumptions in this example, not interpretations of Betfair's seven-day wording.

Suppose acceptance occurs at 12:00 UTC on Monday, the qualifying action is completed at 15:00 UTC on Tuesday, and issue occurs at 10:00 UTC on Wednesday. The qualification deadline is 12:00 UTC on Wednesday: Monday noon plus 48 hours. The action on Tuesday falls inside that window. The bonus expiry is 10:00 UTC the following Wednesday: issue plus 168 hours.

Neither Monday's offer closing time nor Tuesday's completion time supplies the start for the third calculation. If you wrongly start the 168-hour clock at acceptance, you obtain the following Monday at noon, 46 hours earlier than the assumed clause specifies. If you start it at qualification, you obtain Tuesday at 15:00, 19 hours earlier.

The figure displays these three events without calendar dates, so nobody can mistake the example for a live promotion. Its arithmetic is reproducible by adding hours to the stated timestamps.

Do not silently translate days into hours

The example deliberately says 168 hours. A real condition that says seven days may use a date-based cut-off or supply a more specific account expiry. Read that wording before importing the example's interpretation. Equally, a condition ending at midnight needs a date and a time zone; “midnight on Friday” can be an unhelpful shorthand if the document never says which boundary it means.

A precise question to support is: which event started the period, and what exact date, time and time zone does the operator record as its end? Ask for the relevant term as well as the answer. A reply containing only a new countdown may not resolve the original ambiguity.

Keep your own observation separate from the operator's explanation. “The account displayed this time when I checked” reports a screen. “The conditions say this trigger applies” reports a document. The two may agree, but one should not be silently substituted for the other.

We have not verified a universal rule for weekends, public holidays, daylight-saving changes or support-related extensions. Unless the applicable terms or an explicit operator confirmation addresses them, leave them open. A deadline should not acquire extra days merely because the arithmetic would be more convenient.

Match the consequence to the balance

An expiry clause is incomplete as a practical explanation until it says what happens next. Does an unclaimed reward disappear? Does an unused bonus lapse? What happens to pending winnings attributed to that bonus? Those are different questions from what happens to the remaining deposit balance.

The CMA's consumer guidance says that people should be able to leave online play with their remaining deposit and winnings earned from play with that deposit. It also says sites must distinguish a person's money from bonus funds subject to restrictions. That distinction prevents an editor from paraphrasing “bonus expires” as “everything in the account is lost”.

The Commission's free-offers guidance reinforces the need to examine restrictions and the distinction between your money and a bonus. Neither public document tells us how every transaction in a disputed mixed balance was allocated. Ask for the account breakdown and the exact condition relied upon. Avoid accepting a single combined balance as an explanation of its components.

Cancellation is also a separate event from expiry. Do not cancel a bonus merely to test what happens to a balance. Obtain the relevant explanation first and preserve it if the funds involved are unclear.

Wagering progress does not move the deadline by itself

A requirement can have an amount still to complete and a time still available. Those are separate constraints. For an invented £20 bonus with a ten-times requirement on the bonus alone, the initial credited requirement is £200. If £150 of qualifying wagering has been credited, £50 remains. That subtraction says nothing about whether the expiry time has changed.

Nor does £50 remaining establish the cash cost of finishing. Qualifying stakes, returned funds, game contribution and the outcomes of play are separate inputs. Our article about game contribution covers the counting distinction; here the point is that progress is not an extension of time.

Current Commission code 5.1.1 caps wagering requirements at ten times for the incentives within its scope. A permitted multiplier still does not make completion profitable, affordable or necessary. We do not use an old 35-times example as a description of a current Great Britain offer.

If a tracker appears late or inconsistent, record the displayed progress and timestamp and ask the operator to reconcile them. Do not assume that continuing to wager will fix an administrative mismatch, or that opening a support conversation automatically suspends expiry. We verified no general suspension rule.

Keep a disputed deadline readable

A useful enquiry can be short: identify the promotion, state the event and timestamp you believe started the period, give the displayed expiry, and ask the operator to identify the controlling condition. Add the specific balance affected and the outcome you want explained. Attach only records relevant to those points through the business's official support process.

For example: “My record shows issue at [time and zone]. The bonus page showed expiry at [time and zone]. Please identify the clause used to calculate this deadline and explain which balance entries were removed.” This is a suggested wording template, not a report of an actual customer dispute.

Retain the original terms, the account record and the reply. If the issue remains unresolved, the CMA directs consumers to the business's complaints process and identifies independent dispute resolution as a further route. This article stops at understanding and documenting the clause; it does not decide the merits of an individual claim.

The completed worksheet should make uncertainty visible. A blank time zone, an unexplained trigger or an unidentified balance is a question for the operator, not permission for us to guess.
